Topic essay C.

In the novel a thousand splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini, Hosseini showed through the life of Mariam how a person past events can negatively affect ones actions, attitudes or values as a whole. In the beginning of the Novel Hosseini gave a scene of Mariam and her mother Nana as Mariam got ready for Jalils, her father. The novel started with the dialog of Nana in response to Jalils visits calling Mariam a harami, or a bastard, because of the illuson that Mariam has a father when in reality she doesn't.Offsetting the negative affect of Mariam life after she realized that she was a product of an illegitimate relationship which was tragically followed by a legitimate marrige to Rasheed and a further banishment from freedom as well as her realtionship with her father. What is implyed as legitimate in the customs set in the story means to be striped of your freedom.  “the padded headpiece felt tight and heavy on her skull, and it was strange seeing the world through a mesh screen…she did notlikethesuffocatingway the
pleated cloth kept pressing against her mouth.” This qoute shows how Rasheed demanded that Mariam face to be covered so that no man but himself should lay eyes on her. Hosseini used this quote  show how  Mariam past with her father as he didn't want to be seen with her as due to his illegitimate relation with her mother  relates to her legitimate relationship with Rasheed and his demand to keep her hidden from the outside world as well. Also adding to the Afghani culture as to how women are just a scapegoat to be used and forced into whatever the men say.
Showing how ones past as well as another past will always repeat itself just as Nana past and burden of givin an illegitmate birth and living as a cast away contributes to Mariam burden as a wife in a abusive relationship given rise to such sorrow and eventualy death.

Topic Essay A

In the novel " A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini, Hosseini showed how traditions strenghtens the impact of domestic abuse of women living in middle eastern countries. The setting in this noval took places in afghanistan during the times before and after the tailaban took control. In during such time as part of traditions men were giving the power over women and for a man his Identity was everything. If that identity was compromised in any way that will leave a bad impression on that man. That's why in most middle eastern countries a man may have many illegitimate relations that are often times covered up to protect them. That's were the story starts off with the character Nana, who had an affair with a wealthy cinema owner named jalil, andgave birth to an illegitimate child name Mariam. Hosseini started of the novel with the word "harami" through the words of Nana in part to show, even if not directly mention the emotional abuse that she was feeling. That the word "harami" to her express the ugly, loath-some" that express her sorrow for giving birth to Mariam and not being able to provide her with the "love, family, home, and acceptance that she should have. Because of the fact that she has been cast away by Jalil the man that feel in love with because he was assamed to be with her .Hosseini was able to show how all of this has been emotionaly eaten a way at Nana because see new for the longest that Jalil would never truly love his daughter and that all of his attempts to persuade Mariam other wise would eventualy come to light. And that dark truth came out when Jalil stood  Mariamup and her "tears of grief, of anger, of disillusionment" overwhelm her when she realized that her mother has been hurting because she knew the truth about Jalil and how foolish she was for not believing her mother. Not being able took take it any longer Nana took her own life to free herself from the pain she was feeling for leting her daughter down. Many years after Nana death Mariam is forced to  married a guy name Rasheed and move to Kubal. Showing how a women,Mariam, has no say in her life that everything is put upon her by someone else, that she has no life out of "acting like a wife". This give further indication of a physicalogical and emotion abuse because in many afgan countries women have no freedom, and Mariam Relationship isn't any differnent whi h ultimately leads to abuse and a struggle to survive in a world where living means that you die.
